Twenty-seven years have passed since 'It' made its appearance in Derry. Coincidentally enough, it's been twenty-seven years since the Upside Down spilled over into Hawkins. Time, as they say, heals all wounds, and life has gone on for all of those involved. Nancy, having broken up with Steve after the events in Hawkins, has gone on to move to Derry to start a family with Bill. Stanley has relocated to Hawkins, and has begun dating Max. Life as they know it, is now perfect. But what stays gone never stays gone for long.
It's the anniversary of both events, and suddenly, the Hawkins National Laboratory has picked up its roots and settled down in Derry. Now known as the Derry National Laboratory, the large and out of place building in an otherwise sleepy town has drawn the attention of nearly every citizen. The sudden appearance certainly does not go unnoticed by Nancy.
Days later, crops on the Hanlon farm begin to die off, much like the way in which they did back in Hawkins. It isn't too long after that children begin to go missing yet again. Reaching out to her brother and his friends back in Hawkins, Nancy convinces them to come to Derry and help her and Bill end this once and for all.
